I was back in Kingston enjoying the last few days before my flight back to Miami. I stayed again at @reggaehostel and was chilling at the backyard with everyone. We were drinking beers when somebody mentioned a party where a Jamaican singer was planning to film a video clip for his song. It was not far away, so we decided to go to meet the stars 😀
The party was literally in the backyard of someone's house. In Jamaica, you don't need fancy clubs to host a party. As long as you have big enough space, you are fine. Another Jamaican motto: keep it simple.
We were having a good time when we saw a group of people coming in. A friend of mine, L., told me that one of them is that famous singer - Kabaka Pyramid. I had no clue who he was, so had to Google his name afterwards. They started filming their video clip and asked people around to make some noise, to dance, in other words, to create an atmosphere. That was really fun 😀
After the shooting finished, I remember turning back and seeing a very familiar face. I couldn't recognize him at first, but then it hit me! Damian Marley! He is a famous Jamaican singer and one of Bob Marley's sons. I heard about Damian because his song somehow appeared on my Spotify playlist a few months before my trip.

What surprised me was not that he was at this party, but that he had no bodyguards and was not behaving like a celebrity at all. I casually (actually, after hesitating for 15 minutes) approached Damian and asked for a photo. He happily agreed. I then also took a photo with Kabaka Pyramid, because L. told me that it would be rude to take a picture with Damian, but not with Kabaka as it was his party.
Meeting a famous person in Jamaica? Check! ✅
P.S. I not only got two photos with famous Jamaican singers but also appeared for a split second in the video clip of Kabaka Pyramid "Reggae Music". Fast forward to 0.42, and you will see a familiar face 😎
