SOME STORIES SHOULD NEVER BE FORGOTTEN

The 9th of May is an important day in history. It is Victory Day.

Victory Day is a holiday that commemorates the surrender of Nazi Germany in 1945. It was first inaugurated in the 15 republics of the Soviet Union, following the signing of the German Instrument of Surrender late in the evening on the 8th of May 1945 (after midnight, thus on the 9th of May Moscow Time).

In my childhood, I remember waking up early in the morning to watch the military parade in Moscow on our TV. It was exciting to see all the soldiers in uniforms, big tanks, military cars. Unfortunately, the older I got the less I watched it. However, every year irrespective of where I was the day was not forgotten. Our parents, grandparents, great grandparents fought for this freedom and gave us the opportunity to live in the world in which we live now. A big thank you to them!!

Yesterday was 75 years since Victory Day. Together with my friend, we decided to cycle 75 km to celebrate it. We never cycled so far but it was absolutely worth it!

С Днём Победы!

P.S. To this day I enjoy watching old Soviet movies and TV Shows about that time. My favourite movie is "Only "Old Men" Are Going Into Battle" ("В бой идут одни «старики»"). As for the TV Show, it is "Seventeen Moments of Spring" ("Семнадцать мгновений весны").
