THE 1ST OF JUNE

Today is a special day for multiple reasons.

First, it is a public holiday in the Netherlands - Whit Monday. It is the day after Pentecost, also known as Whit Sunday or Whitsunday, which commemorates the descent of the Holy Ghost upon the disciples of Jesus Christ, according to the New Testament of the Bible. I am not a religious person, but I don't mind having a day off 😉

Second, it is the first day of summer!! Finally! 🥳

Third, today all the bars, cafes, restaurants, and cinemas are open! People can finally socialize and enjoy their time outside! 😀 Weather is fantastic in the Netherlands, so people are using this opportunity to the fullest 😀

Finally, it is an excellent excuse to have another bicycle ride. This time it was to Gouda. It's known for its namesake cheese and seasonal cheese market, regularly held on the medieval Markt square. Together with Igor we cycled 63km and burned all the alcohol we drank over the weekend 😄

The ride from Rotterdam to Gouda is very scenic. We saw expensive houses with beautiful cars, green fields with animals chilling, and cute canals with boats. So far, it is my favourite cycling route. More new journeys to come 😉
